Woman, Independent Parent, Artist, Advocate, Artifical Pancreas.... and EVERYTHING in between.

I am blessed to be parenting two beautiful girls, ages eight and eleven. My youngest nearly lost her life at age six (August 2010) to diabetic ketoacidosis: an often fatal consequences of undiagnosed type 1 diabetes. This is OUR journey: raw and sometimes, uncensored.

Thank you for visiting wishing good health and a cooperative pancreas to you and yours.

Sugar Babe Strut

Rowan (8, type 1 diabetic) wanted to Dance For A Cure. So here it is.... the Sugar Babe Strut, seeking donations to Rowan's Recruits: The LadyBug Brigade for the 2012 Walk To Cure Diabetes. It may be a walk.... but I have a hunch she'll be dancing it instead!

Her pancreas might not work.... but her "groove thang" sure does.

Please consider visiting the JDRF Rowan's Recruits fund raising page, benefiting the JDRF/Telus Walk To Cure Diabetes this June. You'll be helping this little girl, and hundreds of thousands around the world, dance THAT much closer to a cure. Thank you!

Six Weeks Til The Walk To Cure Diabetes

Six weeks until the JDRF TELUS Walk To Cure Diabetes

This is a date bigger than Christmas at our house right now!

"Rowan's Recruits" is $294 away from our $1000 fundraising goal. All monies go directly to the Juvenille Diabetes Research Foundation to fund further research to a cure.

What will you do in six weeks?

In six weeks Rowan will have had to do 252 finger pokes to test her blood glucose.... and will have been subjected to a minimum of 42 insulin injections. That number will jump dramatically if she catches a cold, flu or other virus, potentially bringing the number of insulin injections to 84. Possibly more.

There is absolutely no minimum donation. Every $5 or $10 builds up quickly, and you NEVER know which mysterious donation could potentially be the one to help the good folks at JDRF stumble onto a cure.

Please..... my precious L'il Bones and our family really, really, REALLY need a cure.

If you can find it in your heart to contribute, every donation is GRATEFULLY appreciated. I really don't want to outlive my little girl.

Thank you..... please feel free to visit our fundraising page. If you have any questions, I'm more than willing to answer them.

TELUS Walk to Cure Diabetes

Fundraising efforts are kicking into full gear for "Rowan's Recruits" and the TELUS Walk to Cure Diabetes June 12th at the Greater Vancouver Zoo.

I'm excited to announce that EVERY walker registered with Rowan's Recruits, and EVERY donor (donation of $20 or more) will be enterred into a raffle to win this 20 x 20 acrylic canvas "Grateful Heart".

I am tremendously grateful to all who have offered their support since Rowan's diagnosis. Unfortunately, we still need your support more than ever! Insulin is not a cure to Type 1 Diabetes, but with your donations, we can fund further research and make a cure a reality.

My little girl needs a cure. I'm sure you know someone who could also benefit for a cure....

To make a donation online please visit: http://www.jdrf.ca/walk Click on Sponsor a Participant on the left hand side, enter Rowan in the search box, and then select a participant of Rowan's Recruits to sponsor.

Thank you so very much for your consideration.

Please Support Us In Our Quest For A Cure.....

Well, it's official. Today we registered for the 2011 Telus Walk For A Cure benefitting the Juvenille Diabetes Research Foundation.

Did you know that there has been no new advancements since the introduction of insulin in 1921?
Did you know that the daily maintenance of Type 1 Diabetes is equivalent to the daily treatment of cancer?
Did you know that more people die globally each year from diabetes than HIV?

The LadyBugs & I have committed ourselves to raising $5000 and completing this 10k walk. Five fingerpokes (glucose tests) and two - three insulin injections simply SHOULD NOT be part of the childhood experience.

Please help us in our fundraising efforts.

As her mother, I would move heaven and earth to facilitate the discovery of a cure. Please, if you would be willing, imagine for one moment that your child had been struck by this silent epidemic. Help me find a cure for my six year old daughter. Please.

If any of us in this house had ONE wish, you could be guaranteed that a cure would be what we'd ask for. That speaks volumes if a 10 year old and 6 year old would use their one and only wish to find a cure.

We hope to include you as one of "Rowan's Recruits".
